Bradley: Brown decision could affect governor’s race
MANCHESTER, N.H. —Former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown’s decision whether to run for Senate could affect the race for governor.
During a taping of “CloseUP” on Friday morning, state Senate Majority Leader Jeb Bradley said potential candidates for governor may be waiting on Brown’s decision whether to run for U.S. Senate against Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H.
“What I’m waiting on to find out is what is Scott Brown going to do,” Bradley said. “I think if Scott Brown jumps into the Senate race and Sen. Shaheen is vulnerable, that may unleash a number of Republicans who want to run for governor.”
Currently, conservative activist Andrew Hemingway is the only declared Republican candidate for governor. He announced his campaign in late January.
As for Brown, there’s wide speculation that he’s considering a Senate run, but he said no decision has been made. Brown sold his home in Massachusetts in December 2013, moving full-time to his home in Rye, N.H.
Last summer, Bradley was rumored to be considering a run for higher office in 2014, but repeated again on Friday that he’s not interested.
Bradley’s appearance on “CloseUP” was a Republican response to Gov. Maggie Hassan’s State of the State address. “CloseUp” can be seen on WMUR-Channel 9 at 10 a.m. Sunday.
