Concord, NH – Today, Senate Majority Leader Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) issued the following statement after delivering a letter requesting quarterly spending reports the Governor’s office is required to issue.
“This is our second request sent to the Governor’s office calling for her to release quarterly spending reports for statewide departments as required by RSA 9:11 to the legislature and New Hampshire taxpayers.”
“I am disappointed that the Governor continues to ignore the law by not releasing these reports. She signed the bill I sponsored, SB 32, which enacted these requirements for quarterly spending reports. The first report should have been filed by March 31 and is over two months late.”
“I am afraid that given her noticeable absence from the state, that these reports may continue to not be addressed. I am also concerned that we have spent significant resources outside the budget to address the heroin crisis. That is why these budget reports, mandated by law and passed with bi-partisan support, are so important.”
“While revenues in the state have been above estimates, May’s numbers are below expectations. We must continue to be cautious of our spending and remain good stewards of the budget, only spending the money we know we have.”
“I, again request the quarterly spending reports be produced by the Executive Branch as soon as possible. The Governor owes it to New Hampshire taxpayers to comply with the law and ensure that the new spending on the drug crisis, which the legislature has approved, is consistent with the budget and the revenue targets we adopted last fall. Without this information, we simply don’t know the answer to that question and how our state stands financially.”
